The wind energy project, as proposed, will be located approximately 8 miles east of Lincoln, in Penobscot County, Maine, on land encompassing a corridor 10 miles north of, and south of, Rt. 6 in Lincoln, Maine.
The proposed 40 turbines to be installed at Rollins Wind, at maximum output, will produce 60 megawatts of electricity—enough to power more than 22,600 homes per year.
The GE 1.5 megawatt (MW) turbines proposed for the Rollins Wind energy project are among the most installed brand of turbines in the industry, and are currently being used by First Wind at the Mars Hill wind energy project in Mars Hill, Maine. Over 5,000 units are in operation worldwide.
The turbine towers will be 262 feet tall, and the blades will be 253 feet in diameter. At maximum height, these turbines will be 389 feet tall, as measured from blade tip to the ground.
