FIRST WIND STATEMENT ON MAINE BOARD OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION VOTE IN FAVOR OF THE ROLLINS WIND PROJECT
08/06/2009

Boston, MA – August 6, 2009 – First Wind on behalf of its subsidiary, Evergreen Wind Power III, LLC, issued the following statement regarding today’s Board of Environmental Protection (BEP) unanimous vote in support of the permit granted by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for the company’s proposed 60 MW Rollins Wind project:

“We are pleased that the Board of Environmental Protection has decided to support the DEP’s permit granted to our proposed Rollins Wind project. A supportive vote from a citizen board such as the BEP is particularly meaningful as it underscores the project’s economic and environmental benefits to the region and the people of Maine. We look forward to continuing to work with all the permitting agencies and the surrounding communities to make the Rollins Wind project a reality, which will increase Maine’s sources for both clean, wind energy and quality in-state jobs.”

First Wind’s proposed 60 MW Rollins Wind project received approval from the DEP on April 21, 2009. Situated in the towns of Lincoln, Burlington, Lee, Winn and Mattawamkeag, the proposed project will consist of 40 GE 1.5 MW turbines that can produce enough clean, renewable energy to power more than 23,000 homes.
