Environmental Benefits

Hear what environmentalists are saying about clean, renewable wind energy.

The operation of Rollins Wind has the potential to generate enough clean, renewable energy to power more than 22,000 homes each year, without any air or water pollution or greenhouse gas emissions, a leading cause of global warming.

  • Wind power doesn’t pollute: Wind energy projects create zero air or water pollution.
  • Reduced use of climate-changing fossil fuels: Each local, clean megawatt produced through wind energy means less produced through costly fossil fuels. To put this into perspective, you would need to burn the equivalent of approximately 260,000 barrels of oil or 70,000 tons of coal per year to produce the same amount of energy produced last year at the nearby Mars Hill wind energy project in Mars Hill—Maine and the energy produced at the Mars Hill wind energy project has none of the toxicity, health, or cost issues associated with the burning of fossil fuels.

  • Safe for our lakes and rivers: Unlike conventional methods of electricity production, wind power uses almost no water and emits no mercury, a leading cause of contamination to our rivers and lakes.
